New Year, New Beer: Brewer's Choice Special Ale
PORTLAND, MAINE (January 20, 2005)- The Shipyard Brewing Company marks 2005 with the beginning of a new tradition: Brewer's Choice Special Ale. This new beer will be available in February and March while supplies last.
Each year, Brewer's Choice will feature a new, limited edition beer recipe created by Shipyard's award-winning brew house team. Every year the brewery will choose a different beer as the new Brewer's Choice selection.
2005 features Brown Ale.
"Brewer's Choice honors the true spirit of brewing excellence and carries on the age-old tradition of great beer making,' noted master brewer Alan Pugsley. "It gives our award-winning team of brewers the opportunity to develop creative new recipes to bring to the marketplace.'
It's also Pugsley's way of raising a glass to his mentor, Peter Austin, who founded the world-famous Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire, England where Pugsley apprenticed.
The packaging features a line art drawing of Austin at ease in the brew house making a toast to his fellow brewers.
"People will no doubt wonder about the black cat sitting on the barrel next to him,' continued Pugsley. "In England, black cats are a symbol of good luck and Peter had a lucky brew house cat named Bridget who greeted us every morning when we came into work.'
This year, Shipyard will brew a limited run of 10,000 cases of Brewer's Choice. This product will be distributed primarily in New England in 6- and 12-packs as well as on draft.
Brewer's Choice 2005 Brown Ale is a full-bodied, dark brown ale made with 5 different malts and 3 varieties of hops. Pale Ale, Crystal, Chocolate, Roasted Barley and Wheat malts combine to give this beer a nice smoky taste up front and a smooth, full body, finishing with a crisp hop bite at the back. Hops used in this limited edition brew are English Challenger, Styrian Goldings, and East Kent Goldings at the finish. Available February March. 5.4% alcohol by volume.
The Shipyard Brewing Company was founded in 1994 and produces 13 varieties of award-winning English style and seasonal beers.
