Shipyard Brewer's Choice Returns for 2006: Tasting Begins for 2007 Brew

PORTLAND, MAINE (January 31, 2006) - Due to an overwhelming consumer demand, Shipyard Brewer's Choice marks the return of the Brown recipe selected by the Shipyard Brew House for 2005.

This inaugural brew was so successful and was on the shelf for such a short time in 2005 that customers and distributors requested an encore of Brown for 2006.

This repeat performance allows beer lovers the unique opportunity to vote for a new favorite for 2007.

"Three exciting recipes were submitted from Shipyard brewers this year, ranging in style from a rauch beer to a porter,˛ noted master brewer Alan Pugsley. łEach of these recipes will be showcased at Federal Jack's Restaurant and Brew Pub in Kennebunk, Maine; the Shipyard Brew Pub in Eliot, Maine; and Sea Dog Brewing Company, in Topsham, Maine between January and March 2006. The customer favorite from these recipes will most likely be featured as Shipyard's 2007 Brewer's Choice selection and distributed around the country."

Not necessarily in the order they will be served, here are details of the brews vying for selection in 2007:

Bruce Elam believes Porter is an under appreciated style and brings an Oarsman Porter to the taps. David Hall's Scotch Ale features a smoked malt flavor. And, Joe Rank brews a Session Bitter that showcases his personal favorite, Mount Hood hops.

Shipyard Brewer's Choice Brown 2006 is a full-bodied, dark brown ale made with 5 different malts and 3 varieties of hops. Pale Ale, Crystal, Chocolate, Roasted Barley and Wheat malts combine to give this beer a nice smoky taste up front and a smooth, full body, finishing with a crisp hop bite at the back. Hops used in this limited edition brew are English Challenger, Styrian Goldings, and East Kent Goldings at the finish. 5.4% alcohol by volume. Available while supplies last.
