Hannaford, Portland Pirates, and Shipyard Brewing Company Team Up to Support The National Kidney Foundation of Maine

PORTLAND, MAINE (February 8, 2006) - At the Portland Pirates vs. Hartford hockey game on Saturday, February 4 Steve Culver, Hannaford Vice President of Government Relations, presented a check in the amount of $2,800 to The National Kidney Foundation of Maine. Culver is also a member of the Kidney Foundation board.

This donation is the result of a unique partnership between Hannaford, the Portland Pirates, and Shipyard Brewing Company. This contribution represents funds raised through a percentage of Shipyard products sold at Hannaford stores this summer.

"This donation is a big boost to our first quarter fundraising goal," noted Tammy Atwood, executive director. "One in nine Americans has some form of kidney disease. In Maine, that is potentially 104,000 people. This contribution will help us further our mission to support and improve the health of these individuals and give direct financial assistance to patients helping them with heating oil, groceries, medicine, etc."

"Shipyard has a strong spirit of giving back to the community and we're excited about the success of this partnership with Hannaford and the Portland Pirates," noted Dave DuBois, chain manager for the brewery.
